Pete and Helen's Wedding

By 2nd November 2011News, Weddings Blog

"wedding reception London"Pete first contacted us in March 2011 to organise his and Helen’s wedding reception. We find it’s becoming more and more usual for the groom to look after the catering details, leaving the decoration to the bride. So well done groom! You are taking your wedding and married life into the modern world and sharing tasks…!

This goes to show the world we are living in now.  Twenty-five years ago when I started catering for weddings, it was very rare to meet the groom before the wedding day. It is great when the couple are both involved in wedding arrangements, sharing all the decisions. Grooms now even have their own online blogs read. Why not log on – it’s very useful: http://www.iamstaggered.com/

Peter and Helen had the great idea of asking each of their guests to provide them with a cake on the day instead of having the traditional wedding cake.

"Home made wedding cake "

Everyone brought nice homemade cakes and it looked just perfect, giving the vintage feeling they wanted. The venue, the Old Finsbury Town Hall, is a beautiful and magic place which has a natural vintage feel of its own, so there was no need for much additional decoration to create the look Pete and Helen were after.

To continue the DIY "Home made wedding cake"wedding idea, the sister made beautiful handmade painted recycled jars, and filled them with lovely flowers that looked hand picked. The result was perfect and at the end of the night it was a great wedding gesture to give them to the guests.

"Home made wedding cake "Once we had decided on the menu, Helen and Peter came for a tasting and really enjoyed the food –which is the most important thing from our point of view.

Here is the menu they decided to go for:

Reception drinks

Turkish platter, hummus, cacik, babaganoush, olives, grilled pitta bread

Dinner

Cold

Moroccan-style couscous

Bakka salad, marinated broad beans with yoghurt dressing

Baskets of assorted homemade breads

Hot

Chicken tagine with roasted butternuts, chilli, ginger sauce

Vegetable aubergine moussaka (aubergine cut in the length, with béchamel and cheese layers, Puy lentils)

Seasonal vegetables

Saffron Rice
On the day, Peter and Helen looked beautiful and really enjoyed themselves, the guests were happy and we got so many compliments for the food and the service.

But I have to say the best part was when they were doing the speeches. Peter said “what we really wanted today is to have a great party, great wine, great food with all our best friends, and this is what we are having.” He thanked Marie-Laure for her help and all the team from Easy Gourmet and that was really sweet…

It was indeed a great party, including the groom playing in the band and several guests coming to sing. What a great event and wedding!

I would like to thank the really nice photographer Kathryn Edward who has supplied us with some pictures…
