61 Whitehall was purpose built for RUSI (The Royal United Services Institute) and was completed and opened in 1895 by HRH Prince of Wales, later to become King Edward VII. The architect of 61 Whitehall, Sir Aston Webb, was also responsible for the early 20th century extension of Buckingham Palace. The façade of 61 Whitehall was designed to mirror that of the next door building, Inigo Jones’ Banqueting House.
In 2023, a 3-year multi-million-pound refurbishment project was completed to upgrade all facilities, including the construction of an entirely new fifth floor and a glass domed room on the fourth floor above the library.
The sympathetic redevelopment has turned 61 Whitehall into an attractive space for organisations to host meetings, events and conferences. If you’re seeking a unique venue at the heart of Whitehall, then look no further.
