About the Museum of the Order of St John:
The Museum of the Order of St John is one of the great hidden treasures of London, tracing the continuous history of a charity that dates back over 900 years. It is a hidden gem in the City of London, where evocative rooms dating from the twelfth and sixteenth centuries combine with sleek modern spaces to produce a showstopping special events venue.
Glowing gold and crimson in winter, overflowing with scented flowers in summer, St John’s Gate and its Cloister Garden are perfect venues in which to celebrate the British seasons.
The historic rooms are simultaneously grand and intimate, providing an ideal location for receptions, dinners, lunches, lectures, concerts, conferences and meetings.
At Christmas, the Chapter Hall blazes with colour and its enormous chandelier sparkles brightly. In the spring, the Cloister Garden bursts into flower and, by midsummer, its shady benches are surrounded by swathes of lavender, roses, thyme, sage and lilies.
The Museum of the Order of St John is licensed for marriages to take place in the Chapter Hall and Council Chamber. Built in 1504 and with interiors designed by John Oldrid Scott, both spaces are breathtaking. They are decorated with paintings dating from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries, exquisite stained glass and antique furniture.
Private tours of the historic rooms, Priory Church and Crypt may form a part of any event at St John’s Gate.
